One of the most beautiful revelations that I ever received was the Holy Spirit showing me that Adam did not eat the forbidden fruit because he wanted to make himself more like God, or because he wanted to rebel.
No, he ate because he was not willing to be separated from Eve.
You see Adam was not deceived. He knew what the Lord told Him was true, that he would die if he ate (1 Tim 2:14). So then it becomes very easy to see if you ask yourself the question, "Why would Adam eat the forbidden fruit if he knew he was going to die?"
And the answer is so simple, it's because he loved his bride and he was not gonna be severed from her. If she was going to enter into death, he was going to go with her and go through that death so that he could be with her in it.
And this is not on accident. It was written into the fabric of who Adam is! Because Adam is a type, a foreshadowing, of the person of Jesus Christ (Rom 5:14), our God in the flesh who was willing to enter into death on our behalf because of His great love for us and desire to be with us.
Except Jesus Christ could do something that Adam couldn't do. Jesus could rescue his bride. He could deliver his bride from death.
So there is this beautiful picture to be seen, that the ultimate sacrifice, which is Jesus dying for our sins because of the great love for which He loved us, was foretold in the very first two people that God ever created.
